The IBM FlashSystem 5045 steps up from the 5015 with faster controllers, onboard 10Gb iSCSI and built-in encryption. This configuration fills a 12-bay large-form-factor enclosure with nearline SAS drives, making it a cost-effective target for backups, file archives and other capacity-heavy data.

FlashCopy, Easy Tier, Metro Mirror and encryption are included. IBM Storage Virtualize adds data reduction pools with thin provisioning, compression and deduplication, and Safeguarded Copy can keep immutable point-in-time copies as a defence against ransomware.
